Someone I know said to me today they were doing all their Christmas shopping this week in advance of any VAT increases. That too will be a dynamic, no?

But it's very telling how inept an understanding Noonan et al appear to have of these matters.

From today's Indo:

"Retailers will be hoping that the traditional jump in sales in December will be boosted this year by the Government's decision to defer the 2pc rise in VAT until January."

One can but wonder if Michael Noonan is even aware of the time of the year.
