The cuts and taxes in this two-day budget extravaganza will do nothing to cut the deficit, in spite of what the Government clearly believes. There's more than one side on a balance sheet, and if people can't spend, the Exchequer will receive nothing.

The private sector will only 'create' jobs if they have customers.

Banks will only 'get lending again' to SMEs if said SMEs are deemed credit-worthy. SMEs that cannot attract customers are not credit-worthy. They are not likely to attract customers if potential customers are not in a position to purchase their wares.

Rather than a policy of brutal and maddeningly simple-minded cutting, what is required is a focus on increased employment, so people can pay tax, inject their earnings into the economy, and extinguish their personal debt. This is more likely to cut down the deficit.

Chopping the incomes of those who don't hoard their money, and in fact, put their money back into the economy, will do nothing to balance the budget (on the assumption that this is a good thing in the first place).

The only significant revenue these cuts will bring in, will be the continued bribes from the troika, to give the impression to the world that austerity works.

The coalition says big reductions in expenditure are needed in nearly all areas of government if it is to bring down the budget deficit.
