Fact Checker

Employers' PRSI in Ireland is set at 10.75% which as we know is particularly low by European standards.

At some point this will have to rise.

If you wanted to increase employers' PRSI now would not be a bad time. Employment is booming and wages have (finally) begun to creep up too. In these conditions an increase in employers' PRSI would not impede employment growth by much.

Ideally it would be linked to (long-term) social insurance benefits both at a higher level and with more of a link with contributions.
